Vietnamese Shaken Beef

As a child growing up in my family restaurants I was always in the kitchen watching what kind of delicious food my grandma would make for customers. One of the Vietnamese dishes she made is called Bo Luc Lac that means Shaken Beef. Yesterday I decided to give it try and to my surprise it turned out really well :)

Ingredients:

Beef Marinade
1.5 half pounds of beef sirloin or any cuts of beef you like
1.5 tbs minced garlic
1.5 tbs sugar
2 tbs oyster sauce
1 tbs fish sauce
1 tbs sesame oil
1 tsp thick soy sauce

Dipping Sauce
Juice of 1 lime or lemon
1/2 tbs kosher salt
1/2 tbs fresh ground black pepper

Half a red or white onion sliced thinly
1/4 head lettuce
2 tomatoes halved and cut in slices

Method:
To prepare the marinate: combine sugar, oyster sauce, sesame oil, minced garlic, soy sauce and fish sauce together in a small bowl. Cut your beef into 1" cubes and mix the marinade in the sauce in the fridge for 1-2 hours or 30 min before cooking.

After marinating the meat you can go start plating a dish with a bed of chopped lettuce and rim the plate with sliced tomatoes.

In a ramekin or small bowl squeeze the juice of 1 lime or lemon into the bowl with the half tbs of salt and fresh ground pepper. Leave it a side until you finish cooking your beef cubes.

Heat a wok or pan with 2 tbs of oil till you see the oil smoke a bit put in the beef and let it sear for 2 minutes after that you can "shake" the wok to sear all sides of the beef cubes for another 1-2 minute. Justin and I enjoy our beef medium rare so the searing time depends on how you like your beef :)

Serve with steam rice.

Haha, I hope you guys find my recipe easy to follow!
